A Throwback Two-Bachelorette Live Special!
Come join us on Sunday for an intimate couch-based recap of the 2015 Britt v. Kaitlyn showdown.
For the past month, we’ve been hard at work on something we’re very excited about: a live show! “Love to See It: (At Home) with Emma and Claire” will be a vintage “Bachelorette” recap, a topical pre-Windecchia “Bachelorette” discussion, an anniversary party, a fundraiser for the Brigid Alliance and a cozy hang all rolled into one virtual live show airing Sunday night.
The last time we did a live show was back in 2019, when we did a mini tour as Here to Make Friends, and since then a lot has changed: our employment status, the name of our “Bachelor” podcast, the existence of Claire’s son, and the emergence of a pandemic that now refuses to end. So we’re thrilled to be going live again — but this time via the power of the Internet, in partnership with Moment House.
On Sunday, July 10 (that’s this Sunday!), we’ll be streaming from our couch at 9 ET / 6 PT. We will have exclusive merch. We will have a live chat going. We will have the tip jar open to take donations for the Brigid Alliance, a nonprofit that helps people pay for travel and other expenses in order to access abortion care. We will have wine. And we will have many, many (MANY) thoughts on the premiere episodes of season 11 of “The Bachelorette,” otherwise known as the other two-Bachelorette season of the American show.
It’s “Kaitlyn Bristowe vs. Britt Nilsson: Only One Gorgeous Brunette With Blonde Ombre Highlights Can Survive the Emotional Devastation of Being Voted Undesirable by Some Drunk Guys Named Ryan.”
These are the very first episodes of this franchise that we recapped as a podcasting duo, so this is truly a full circle moment for us (as well as, effectively, a 7-year anniversary party for our show). It was a very short recap, and we hadn’t really settled into our roles yet, so we’re eager to finally get a re-do on ripping these premiere episodes to shreds. (Stay tuned for the afterparty for our recap of our first recap — in other words, for us to lovingly snark on ourselves.)
While we both brought a feminist eye to “The Bachelor” long before we launched the podcast, this season — positioned by the show almost explicitly as bait for hate-watchers who loathed the show’s traditionalism and misogyny — offered particularly rich material for analysis. And it turned out to be a pivotal moment in the show’s grappling with the rise of pop feminism: the season began by pitting two women against each other and ended by hysterically slut-shaming Kaitlyn, but the spectacle fed a backlash against the show’s dated sexual politics and fueled a trend toward more sex-positive depictions of women on the franchise.
So please, join us! No matter where you live (or even whether you’re free Sunday night — there will be a recording available for a week after the show in case you miss it!), you are invited.
In addition to the main show, you can buy a ticket for the afterparty, a meet-and-greet video call, and exclusive merch! The merch is available when you buy tickets as well as during the event itself.
Speaking of the merch, we are slightly obsessed with it. We designed an “it’s the friendship for me” tee and mug and a “quirky girl edit” bucket hat and phone case.
PLUS, our talented friend Priscilla Frank drew an original illustration of a hand wearing a Neil Lane classic, which you can get as a mug or a shirt.
Again, all the tickets and merch are available here! We hope to see you there.
Note: For paid subscribers, we will be taking next week off of Rich Text, as we’ve been throwing ourselves into prepping this show, but we’ll be back soon!
