I, personally, think it's great that millennials love Sour. There have been so many times when older generations have belittled young artists criticizing them for being earnest or not serious enough or bratty or whatever (see Taylor Swift circa 2006-2019). It's actually refreshing for people in their late-20s and 30s loving a piece of work made by someone who is a serious artist and happens to be 18. Her music is extremely relatable and also it takes incredible talent for an artist to create something that makes you feel deeply what they are feeling.

I really enjoyed this chat and am interested now in checking out Cruel Summer. I wonder if either of you have watched My So-Called Life? That was very much My Show - I was 15 when it aired, the same age as the characters, and I adored it. I recently re-watched it, now the age of the parent characters, and I think it holds up very well (and what doesn't feels like a fascinating commentary on the time - but I won't say more, so as to avoid being spoiler-y :) If you haven't seen it, I think you'd be interested in it as a piece of work about teens in 1994 made in 1994. Just a warning: so much flannel :)

I'm a little older (ok, a lot older than you gals) but I really like Olivia Rodrigo's music. I don't relate to it on a "now" level, I've been happily married for over 30 years, but I can relate to it on a nostalgic level. Some breakups just stick with you. I don't see myself ever fangirling over her, but I do enjoy and vibe with her music and I think that just speaks to the universality of her themes. And I am definitely going to check out Cruel Summer now. Thanks for the recommendation.
