I read two books this year that hurt me (emotionally & physically) to read. On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong and Real Life by Brandon Taylor. I'm not sure if this is a new post-pandemic thing, but sentences would frequently stop me in my tracks. I'd have to take a break and return to the book.
Just had to re-start my library account and lost all of "wishlist" books. I knew this list would be the perfect place to rebuild. I always love your recommendations, and the additional perspective you offer. Thank you!

Real Life is so fantastic! I read it during maternity leave and it truly brought my brain back to life.

I love love LOVED Tarana Burke’s “Untamed.”
Thanks for this post/list! I recommend The Office of Historical Corrections if you want to keep going with short stories.
That was one of my favorite books of 2020! She’s brilliant.
