Please, please can we stop buying fast fashion? I’m sure part of the intention for these recommendations is to include some clothing at lower price points, but it’s impossible to produce new clothing at prices that low without exploiting someone. Those who can afford to should adjust to smaller wardrobes with higher quality pieces, bought used or from ethical companies. Good used clothing can be very affordable! High quality clothing gets treasured and repaired and can therefore pass from owner to owner on the used market for decades! Also, new ethically-made clothing doesn’t have to break the bank: https://thisisunfolded.com/collections/collection-08

Garment workers for H&M have extremely difficult lives. It’s not worth it to perpetuate that just so we can replicate Taylor’s latest look. https://laborrights.org/releases/workers-reveal-poverty-wages-and-labor-law-violations-hm%E2%80%99s-supply-chain

I hear you! I think this only the second H&M item I have recommended ever on the newsletter and I make an effort to keep fast fashion recommendations to a minimum. I also want to be honest about the things that I am purchasing and enjoying. It is a delicate balance, but I'll be more thoughtful in the future.

Thanks, Emma! H&M is one of the worst offenders, but unfortunately Zara, Old Navy, Uniqlo, etc. sit in that space too. I’m a longtime fan of the pod and really appreciate you being willing to take this into consideration.

I personally buy everything second hand so I’m not fussed over brands but I feel like it should be possible to make an oversized shirt for less than $850. It seems like luxury fashion brands overcharging is the entire reason fast fashion and cheap dupes exist in the first place.

It totally is possible! There are tons of small, super cool brands that sit in between and also pay their workers living wages. It just takes a little extra research. Aja Barber has a directory of some of those brands on her Patreon. Couldn’t recommend it more - she’s got taught me everything I know about ethical fashion.
