Hi Claire, one thing changed our lives in the snot-sucking department: the Nosiboo Pro. The downside: it is insanely expensive. The other downside (in my book at least): it is sold exclusively by Amazon. But I have never regretted buying it.
Claire - do you have any book/podcast/etc recommendations on the general topic of “parenting feminist sons”? I feel like there’s a lot of internet content that feels weird and wondering if you’ve come across anything you like!
Oh that’s a good question! Honestly, I think because I am so allergic to the concept of being a “boy mom” I have not sought out any boy-specific guidance. I am mostly following my instincts and values, and consuming generally progressive parenting content. I kind of hate the idea of raising sons differently than I would raise daughters, though I know as they are increasingly socialized by a very gendered society that will become necessary. For now I’m focusing on things like validating their emotions and interest, enforcing the importance of consent and “gentle hands” (and modeling that in return), and trying to make sure Greg and I are showing them a balanced and healthy relationship rather than one where I’m doing all the cooking/cleaning/etc. If you find any good content let me know!!
All makes sense! We’re still in the “keep the baby alive and maybe sleep some” phase of parenting but a friend asked me and our vague plan is basically what you described.
If I get served one more reel about how to best parent my infant son with the goal of being a good future mother in law though I swear...

Someone I know wrote this four years ago but I thought you might find it interesting in light of the new Beyonce singles (Rhianna Giddens is on the new singles, a queen!!)! https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/country-music-racist-history-1010052/
*Rhiannon, darn autocorrect.
