Hearing Claire say ages 3-4 have been less than ideal made me almost cry. It’s been so hard with my preschooler recently, and I am happy that brighter days are ahead!

Preschool is SO hard!! Every parent I know has been struggling with this age. But little by little he is able to regulate and focus on other things more, and it's amazing. This week he's been playing card games with me and having actual conversations -- it actually feels like hanging out with a person for the first time. Hang in there! It will happen!

Gosh, I’m with you Claire. My son is about 4.5 and I feel like we’re in similar spheres. I will saw he only made it through the Lover era. But he was completely enraptured for those 20 minutes before climbing all over me. The only way I’ve made it through the “why” phase is responding, “what do you think?” It’s kind of related to the other topic you mention, gaslighting. He asks me Why. I answer with what I know to be true. He screams, “No it’s not.” And so it would go until I evaporated 💨

Ugh, yes! It's that terrifying feeling of knowing that you can't give the right answer because you don't know what it is, but you will be punished by a wrathful toddler. "What do you think?" usually only pisses mine off more!

I get aggravation 2 out of 3 times I’d say. He’s not fully taking on board my psychotherapist BS. Which, fair.

I’d love to hear you two discuss the tradwife thing on the show! I’m just discovering it (late to the game) and relating it to a lot of Bachelor tropes and the women on this season of Love is Blind. I’m a married straight man and it really gives me the ick! The husband = master part is just so repugnant! Is this just internalized misogyny, or am I missing something?

I’m so glad you liked The Idea of You! I’ve been a fan of Nicholas since the Amazon Cinderella (I know it was panned by critics, but I loved it and he was so charming) so I’m glad he’s getting more recognition - and super excited to see Anne in a romcom again. I’m going to a screening for the opening night at the Atlanta Film Festival and really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. I only wish that it was going to actually be a theatrical release and that people still went to the movies for romcoms. I just don’t think most people go to the movies if it’s not for something like Dune and it makes me sad. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the state of movie going from a millennial / women’s perspective.

Also, if you want to see more of Nicholas and are a sucker for historical costume dramas, I just watched the first episode of Mary and George on STARZ and it was devilishly delightful ;)

#1 I actually liked Anyone but you 🫣 it wasn’t a top tier romcom but I thought it was fun!! #2 Re: The Idea of You the age difference makes me uncomfortable (and I would feel uncomfortable regardless of gender) - would love to know your folks’ thoughts on the age gap! #3 that reminds me I still can’t stop thinking about the cut article on the age gap wife

lol I have such a low bar for rom-coms, but I really couldn't get into Anyone But You! It just wasn't my jam.

And never fear, we'll be dropping a pod about the ~age gap discourse~ on Friday

Thanks for bringing up the age gap topic! I read the book without knowing much about it and this particular age gap REALLY bothered me (he’s only 20 in the book!!). I ended up finishing it but was confused by how often this book is recommended without any sort of content warning… I personally did not find it romantic at all and definitely would not recommend it.

That said, the actors in the movie are closer in age and they changed their ages vs the book. Hayes 24 in the movie (instead of 20 in the book). The actor is actually 29, and doesn’t look younger to me, which made the trailer seem more appealing to me somehow…. Late 20s just seems way more mature than early 20s to me!

Yeah I think the fact that Anne and Nicholas don't actually look that far apart in age, and the fact that they've aged up Hayes as well as Solene's daughter, reduces the creep factor by a lot.
